Spending a night in a PADS shelter

On Friday night I stayed overnight volunteering for a class in a PADS shelter. I heard many stories and had my stereotype truly broken. I was nervous when I first went in, but it was such a great experience. If anyone wants to get to know what homeless people are really going through, this is a great way. I would recommend doing this for anyone, and you don't have to stay overnight. Just helping serve dinner teaches a person enough. Email me if you want to hear more of my story.

Homeless in the city

Today I went into the city with a couple girls from school. If anyone has been in the city, they can see how people sit on the sidewalks asking for money. People will turn away, or not even give these people a smile. I've found putting about a dollars worth of quarters in my pocket, this way I don't have to open my purse, I can easily give them money. Some don't choose to give them money because they can't tell between those who are in need, and those who are trying to get some extra cash. I feel we are not the ones to judge. If a person needs the money, or doesn't need it, that is their choice. If they are willing to sit on a corner, then they obviously need some help. They will have to live with themselves for the rest of their life if they are cheating people. I try to remember the story of the Good Samaritan in the Bible. We shouldn't judge a person from their outside appearances, we are all God's children. He will be the ultimate judge, and why not try to show his love to all of those we can.
