Getting rid of plastic!
I adore etsy (www.etsy.com) - it's green and sustainable in so many ways (supporting locally made goods, buying direct, promoting goods produced with recyclable materials and non-toxic ingredients etc.). Still, sometimes I'm bummed that something like etsy is often limited to jewelery, art, clothing - all beautiful and necessary in their own right, but I wish I could buy EVERYTHING with the same clear conscience and excitement that I do with etsy (food, electronics, gas!). I was very excited to see something a little less crafty, a little more utilitarian the other day:
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5621296. It's the "Kootsac" - for use in buying and storing bulk-foods. It's taking the good feeling you get when you avoid individually packaged snack foods, grain and cereals and eliminating one more piece of packaging with the thin plastic bags you so often use to bring such bulk purchases home. Ingenious, resourceful - this is a concept I can get behind. Kudos to the creator, and of course, they're available on...etsy!
