As Chairperson for the Middlesex County NJ - 2008 March for Babies on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Rutgers University - Louis Brown Athletic Center, I am committed to supporting the March of Dimes for the great work they do in "Saving Babies."
The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, prematurity, and infant mortality.
Seventy-six cents of every dollar raised for March for Babies is spent on programs that help save babies, like gene therapy research and our new prematurity campaign to help in the efforts of finding the causes of preterm labor.
Prematurity affects 1 out of 8 babies born in New Jersey and that figure increases to 1 out of every 6 babies for African American's.
As a "Baby-Boomer" I remember back to my childhood when Polio was a real threat to the citizens of the United States and the world in general. I can remember vividly our class raising money for the March of Dimes each year, just a dime, no more no less, and for that dime you got to wear your March of Dimes support button. I remember my first inoculation against Polio as the Salk vaccine was made available to the public. Finally I remember my entire family going to the school gymnasium to receive the "new" Sabin polio vaccine on a sugar cube. Wow.. no injections!
Sign up today to join the 2008 March for Babies and make a difference in someone's life or make a donation if you're unable to walk.
