To welcome a child into a family through a deeply inclusive gesture, adoption.
In the USA alone, there are over 100,000 children waiting to be adopted. Worldwide there are millions of children who are in desperate need of family care. But even after children are adopted, over half will have attachment disorders, stemming from their primary abandonments. Many think the adoption system needs revamping.
In the United States the adoption process can take several years, when there are children NOW who need to be cared for. Why is there this preemptive stemmy? Barriers exist globally in many countries that prevent outside adoptions, for example. But when the nationals are unable to absorb their needy children, many end up on the streets, creating an entirely different problem.
But adoption has historically had mixed results, depending on the variety of variables that go into a particular situation, including the child's backround, the family's backround, the new socio and economic environment the child finds itself in, etc. But with the number of children needing families climbing every year, adoption is an increasingly important issue to engage in.
Children's lives are at stake.
