To create beauty out of trash, literally, is what many talented young and old artists do in the developing world. With boundless creativity and sensitive hearts, art from the developing world is stunning, and there are many deeply talented musicians, painters and creators, that go unnoticed.

Imagine using photography, or painting or sculpture to capture the imaginations of children and empower them, building confidence, self-esteem and hope. To subsequently share their visions and voices with the world through exhibitions, books, websites and film, their voices could be magnified. Bringing beauty out of ashes is not just a beautiful idea, many are already doing just that.

Our eyes must be opened wider than the narrow focus of what is wrong with places of poverty, and begin to see the hope, often manifested through art. If the children in La Chureca, Nicaragua (a trash dump where over 150 familes live), can create flowers out of old soda bottles (pictured left), then our imaginations have a long way to go.
