48.6 million abortions were performed in American between 1973-2003. The pro-life movement attempts to save the lives of at-risk children and to end the practice of abortion.
Situation: An entire generation of children has been wiped out by abortion. Abortion remains the greatest societal evil in a decadent American society more committed to autonomous pleasure and social status than to the care of the defenseless unborn. Roughly one million abortions are performed every year in America, many by for-profit clinics. Abortion is generally argued along the lines of feminist logic, codified in the language of "choice" and "rights", but few in this camp seem to take into account the "rights" of the unborn.
Statistics: The data that surrounds abortion composes a nightmare. On the question of the child's pain, an unborn child at 20 weeks gestation (a common period for abortion) “is fully capable of experiencing pain... Without question, [abortion] is a dreadfully painful experience for any infant subjected to such a surgical procedure.” So says Robert J. White, MD., Ph.D. professor of neurosurgery, Case Western Reserve University. Some common procedures involve sucking the baby's brains out of its head with a vacuum and crushing the baby's skull with a forceps. Some medical footage has shown babies desperately squirming away from abortionist tools. For people with a conscience and concern for humanity, such footage is too awful to comprehend.
On the question of the mother's health, premature birth is the leading cause of infant morbidity and mortality, and at least ten international studies show previous abortions significantly increases that risk. Thirteen out of 17 studies in the U.S. reported more breast cancer among women who chose abortion. A 1996 meta-analysis of all published reports on the incidence of induced abortion and breast cancer appearing in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health found, on average, a 30% increased risk. A Los Angeles Times survey in 1989 found that 56% of women who had abortions felt guilty about it, and 26% "mostly regretted the abortion." More than half of women reporting post abortion problems say they have thought of suicide, with 28% actually attempting it. Women who have abortions are more likely to abuse their other children. Not surprisingly, children of aborting women have higher rates of behavior problems. These are a mere sampling of statistics related to the holocaust that is abortion.
YOU SHOULD CARE because babies are being slaughtered by the thousands on a daily basis. Consider the above statistics, and the basic reality of abortion: a human life is extinguished in brutal fashion. Then, see if you are not wracked with sadness over abortion, and moved by a sense of horror and sadness to combat this dreadful institution.
