Volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs are places at-risk youth and adults can connect in one-on-one and group mentoring. This group seeks to help existing programs in Chicago and other cities get a more consistent flow of operating resources that help each be more effective.
This group on Razoo is an extension of work that I do as President, CEO, or a non profit based in Chicago. We have two names:
Cabrini Connections is a site based non-school tutor/mentor program that connects 7th to 12th grade inner city teens with workplace volunteers in one-on-one and group tutoring, mentoring and learning activties.
Tutor/Mentor Connection (T/MC) is a leadership and marketing strategy aimed at helping all high poverty neighborhoods in the Chicago region, and in other major cities, have a wide range of programs similar to Cabrini Connections. This starts with identifying the programs already offering various forms of tutoring/mentoring in different parts of the city and leading actions that draw volunteers, dollars and public visibility more consistently to each program, while drawing programs together to learn from each other, and collaborate on capacity building activities.
While we aim to draw people to T/MC web sites and events, we also host T/MC discussions and meetings in numerous spaces on the Internet, such as this. Our aim is to help groups of people take ownership of this strategy, so that more people get involved, and it ultimately does not depend on any single leader to be successful
I encourage you to visit the T/MC web sites and other links that we provide and skim through like you'd do the first time you go to a shopping mall. Once you have a sense of the wide range of information and resources, you can choose which ideas you want to use in your own efforts to help kids in your community, or to help the T/MC help kids in many communities.
