I think that the Foundation is the coolest institution in the global social fabic, and I created Philanthropy 2.0+ which lives in Second Life, Facebook, and Razoo to enhance awareness of the impact of grantmaking and to help develop a professional association for grantmakers. I want to make it global and rely heavily on social media -virtual worlds especially.

About the picture for this group -The Torchbearers by Charles Umlauf. I studied philanthropy http://www.rgkcenter.org at UT-Austin where the sculpture resides. The Torchbearers speaks to me of excellence and the transmission of culture.

I have connected with many people in philanthropy through LinkedIn and mapped out some of the organizational connections on Xigi.net.

This group is a meta-group, and I made a meta-meta-group at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=4353677629 as a resource with links to other meta-groups. If you are passionate about a topic, go ahead and make a meta-group. I will add it there.

I think that professional and industry associations play a particularly important role in making the world a better place. They have a tremendous ability to affect the talent / human capital of a region. I think that good grantmaking involves working as closely as possible with associations most relevant to the change sought. Toward that end I created the group Infrastructure Associations.
