I was born in Romania in 1985 so I got to experience a few years of life under a totalitarian regime. I began studying English at a very young age. I first began volunteering in school : I was part of the choir and each winter we would give free shows and gifts to children in foster homes. I was a very active volunteer in high school, especially after joining the Public Speaking Club. We organized fund raisers, campaigned to raise awareness on certain topics( gender equity, homelessness) and also held various training sessions. I decided to pursue my interest in International Affairs at University, where I will also major in Art History. Because of my interest in arts I volunteered several times with local chapters of Habitat for Humanity and INTBAU ORG in salvaging and rebuilding houses in different areas of Romania.
Since 2006 I have been part of the Open Society Institute Undergraduate Exchange Program. I have studied one year(2006/2007) at the University of Vermont, in the USA. There I taught Spanish classes to children from poor families, I cooked for the homeless, campaigned and raised awareness against female genital mutilation in Muslim countries and raised funds in order to build schools in war ravaged Sudan. Ever since returning home to Romania to finish my University studies I got a job at a local television and am currently in charge with a show which, among others, discusses volunteering. I am also developing my own Service Learning project in collaboration with a local high school.

One small step at a time (convincing all the employees of a company to recycle, teaching foreign languages to children in rural areas, making youths from different ethnic backgrounds accept each other, etc.)

All the unsung heroes- teachers who keep going to work even though they only have two students and their school is located in a remote village, women who worked hard to gain their independence in oppressive climates, people who put their lives on the line to preserve their culture, athletes who have overcame their disabilities.
