Rooftop rainwater harvesting systems capture rainwater for storage in underground tanks. Collection of rainwater provides clean water for drinking and sanitation improving health and hygiene in rural communities. In 2005, men and women from Sierra Leone travelled to the Barefoot College in Tilonia, India, for six months to become barefoot solar and water system engineers. Working with Safer Future Development Projest in Sierra Leone, these water engineers will now be building rainwater harvesting systems for schools in Sierra Leone and Mauritania.
