VE volunteer Christi Mladic (USA) reads along with girls from Hogar San Francisco, one of the 14 institutions with which VEGlobal works. Vamos a Leer! (Let's Read!) is our reading program, inspired by the “Book It!” program in the United States and developed by volunteer Teresa Hamm. The program gives our children the opportunity to improve their reading skills with individual attention and motivation from volunteers through a prize-oriented system. Kids are initially attracted to the fun prizes (such as ice cream) but eventually begin to read on their own for fun even after each session.
